Blackjack dealers are governed by simple table rules. Like for instance, when a dealer's hand is a combination of 16 or lower, it is imperative that the blackjack dealer makes a hit or gets an additional card. With a hand of 17 or higher for the dealer, it means the dealer must stand or stay put. However, some casinos may give the blackjack dealer the option to hit even with a good soft 17. When the face cards and high cards have mostly been out of the deck, and lower cards seem to be available for a hit, then the blackjack dealer may hit, and give advantage to the house.

The unbeatable way to win blackjack is to get a natural. A natural is sure to beat or equal the dealer's hand. The blackjack dealer may even bust if the dealer chooses to catch up with a player's natural 21. The first two cards of a player that equal 21 using any 10 plus an ace is a natural 21. The ace here is used as an 11. This card combination is the highest single card combination in blackjack.

A natural blackjack always gets a bonus. Natural blackjacks get a winning proportion of 3 to two winnings. So that means if one had bet $10 and got a natural blackjack, one gets paid $15. In some casinos, blackjack players are not allowed to touch the cards. The dealer handles all the cards to make sure no card switching is done. But some casinos allow hand-held cards for players. In such case, when a natural blackjack is in hand, be sure to reveal it at once in order to be paid the blackjack bonus.

To cushion the effect of a dealer's blackjack, an insurance bet may do the trick. An insurance bet is rewarded 2 to 1, although the original bet of the player will be lost to the dealer. The insurance bet is lost to the dealer if the dealer does not have a blackjack, but the original bet is retained. Some blackjack experts say insurance bets are useless, unless one has counted cards and has a good idea of what hand the dealer has.
