Blackjack 101: The Moves

Blackjack is one of the interesting card games you'll find in any casino you happen to be in. It is one of the most popular card games in the entire world today. Part of that popularity is the fact that in a game of blackjack, players actually have a chance to really beat the house.

Though blackjack is a card game and does use a deck of cards, it is really more of a numbers game. If players are able to get a hand that totals to a higher amount than that of the dealer, then they win. The only precaution is the fact that anyone (including the dealer) who goes beyond a total of 21 automatically loses.

Since the objective of the game is for you to get a really high total it is important to know the moves and decisions necessary to get the higher score in a game of blackjack. We'll deal with blackjack moves and improve your chances of beating the dealer. Let's discuss these moves and how they can help us win in a game of blackjack.

Now, let's say you get an initial blackjack hand consisting of a Four and a Five. That totals to nine for your initial hand. Since the goal is to beat the dealer, a total of nine won't really be that good, what we want is to jack up the totals, right? In order to add more to your current total, you can ask for an additional card in blackjack.

This is called a hit (or hitting) in blackjack. You can keep hitting over and over until you get a total in your hand that is just right in your estimate. One bit of precaution though, is that if you hit and get a total above 21, you bust and automatically lose.

If you think your current hand is already satisfactory (meaning you think it can beat the blackjack dealer's hand) you can always stand. To stand means to go with your current hand and the current total.

If you're really confident with the hand you've got, one of the interesting moves in blackjack is called double down. The dealer gives you one more card, you stand, and double your wager.

Splitting in blackjack means that you split your two cards into separate hands, and get another card for each new hand (giving you a total of four cards). You also double the wager making sure that both hands have an equal amount of bets. This option is only available if both cards in your initial hand are equal in value.

These are the moves you can do in blackjack. Choose your moves wisely when to hit, stand, double down, or split during a blackjack game.
